I tried everything and everything failed. I put those collars on my three cats. So far short hair cat has no flea. Long hair cats have one or two fleas every other day. But flea population has decreased dramatically. I am happy with the result.

The active ingredients in a tube of Bengay Ultra are Methyl Salicylate 30%, Menthol 10% and Camphor 4% (the Methyl Salicylate is wintergreen oil but industrially produced rather than extracted from wintergreen plants). Icy Hot is very similar. It has the first two ingredients in almost the same percentage but no camphor. These are the ingredients that give you that intense feeling of alternately hot and cold, and the pungent minty odor that hangs around you for hours. This stuff blows Icy Hot away. I apply this to my back and to my neck when I get my allergy headaches. The cooling/burning sensation is so over whelming (not in a bad way) that I don't even feel any pain I was experiencing before putting this on. It lasts for about 30 minutes depending how much you use.

Besides the disadvantage of having to bust out my vacuum cleaner everytime I need to use this thing, I have no complaint. it sucked out plenty of snots from my 3.5mo old daughter and she didn't even blink. I even tried it on myself and it wasn't uncomfortable at all. The only thing is for adult you might want to watch how much mucous is pulled out because it may be too much for the little container to handle, and it'll be sucked into the vacuum.
